Doris and Anna Zinkeisen Doris Zinkeisen, 1930s

Sisters, Doris and Anna were both prominent 20th century artists. Both Anna and Doris worked as official war artists during the Second World War and, as volunteers of St John Ambulance, also nursed war casualties.

Doris created a diorama as a travelling exhibition to raise funds for the Joint War Organisation although this is now lost!

In the 1950s, Anna completed two notable portraits for St John Ambulance, which were used in publicity campaigns. These paintings now hang in the St John Ambulance Gallery in the Museum.
