St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response, Night Time Economy and Homelessness outreach) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes). There is also a buoyant social enterprise network which delivers first aid training and supplies medical consumables to businesses and consumers.
Job Summary
The postholder will lead, manage and oversee the DevOps team and all technical work associated with the charity’s product catalogue of critical business applications and platforms. They will ensure design, build and operational activities are effective, stable and efficient optimising service delivery standards and business value. They will lead a DDAT roadmap which identifies and delivers improvement to all technologies increasing business value, lowering risk, minimising technical debt and maximising quality in line with enterprise architecture standards. They will seek out and lead initiatives to realise the benefits of the automation of operational capabilities such as configuration, maintenance, security and monitoring along with the development of a continuous integration and improvement pipeline. Taking responsibility for the team’s technical outcomes they will be accountable for meeting KPIs and metrics for the operation and meeting delivery deadlines and milestones for any associated project work.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, you will require a degree in computing or related subject as well as Agile or DevOps certification, Experience of leading a DevOps function within a similar scale organisation with significant experience of application of Enterprise Architecture frameworks, advanced understanding of SaaS, PaaS and cloud technologies, Experience of modernising legacy technologies and transformation of people and processes, Experience of working with legacy, cloud and platform as a service technologies and implementing and working with a CICD pipeline and Experience of adherence to Infosec compliance standards such as NHS Digi Toolkit, PCI and Cyber Essentials.
About the Role
- Lead, design, and build a DDAT roadmap to modernise and stabilise the charities technologies and implement and govern architectural principals and standards
- Establish a recognised practice of excellence for all DevOps capabilities inclusive of solution design, engineering and quality assurance testing
- Drive forward recommendations for innovation through use of new technologies to enable the benefits of established and emerging industry trends such as cloud, SaaS, PaaS, automation and AI to be realised
- Ensure the security of new and maintained technologies through adherence to best practice standards
- Setup and maintain a CICD pipeline which delivers efficient, best value outcomes
