RISK AND IMPACT OFFICER

St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response, Night Time Economy and Homelessness outreach) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes).
Job Summary
This is a key role in managing our approach to managing risk and measuring our social impact, as part of our overall approach to performance management. It has two parts: Firstly, to engage with senior stakeholders to implement effective risk management at all levels of the organisation, ensuring effective management of the charity’s Board Assurance Framework and supporting Network Risk Registers in each part of the organisation. Part of the risk aspect of the role will also include managing the charity’s insurance arrangements on a day-to-day basis. Secondly, to work with the charity’s Impact Lead to conduct research assessing the impact of our work on the communities and organisations we serve, and develop a suite of impact management processes, tools and guidance.
About You
- To be successful in this role, you will bring direct experience in risk management approaches, techniques and frameworks, AND/OR conducting research to evaluate the social impact of projects or services
- You will have experience of sourcing data/information (both qualitative and quantitative), analysing and interpreting it, organising and presenting clearly in reports, dashboards, guides and other forms of documentation
- You will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications) at (Grade C / 4) including Maths & English
- A degree level in a relevant business, research or social science discipline would also be beneficial
About the Role
The key responsibilities of this role will be to:
- Engage with senior stakeholders to ensure that our risk management frameworks are being applied consistently across the organisation, collating up-to-date risk information and providing regular reports
- Manage SJA’s insurance provision day-to-day, working closely with our insurance brokers
- Conduct research to underpin the long-term strategy and define our impact on the communities and organisations (e.g. the NHS) that we serve
- Develop and embed supporting collateral to help other stakeholders operate within a consistent impact framework .
