All state funded schools in England are required to teach first aid as part of health education for all key stages. In primary schools, pupils learn essential skills such as how to make an emergency call and how to respond to common injuries. In secondary schools, pupils build on this foundation by learning additional skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to use an automated external defibrillator.
These resources are intended for teaching staff who are delivering first aid education to children and young people. They support the health education curriculum and meet the requirements for each key stage. All resources are free to download.
Each resource includes a teaching pathway for key stage 2 (KS2), key stage 3 (KS3) and key stage 4 (KS4). This provides a recommended sequence for introducing first aid topics to pupils.
Where appropriate, lessons link to relevant areas of the national curriculum, particularly science. This is intended to help teaching staff decide where to place first aid content within a broader curriculum plan.
